Document management expert's report that today up to 90 percent of all corporate information resides on paper or some type of unstructured format. Further, the document management technology available today requires little or no organisational change while providing amazing benefits. That is why electronic document management is becoming increasingly essential for companies of any size.

When we look at running a business, there is an unrecognised cost of operating and maintaining a paper-based system. Although companies have to use paper, many industries and organisations become inundated with it. According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the average international transaction involves 27 to 30 different parties, 40 documents, 200 data elements (30 of which are repeated at least 30 times) and the re-keying of 60 to 70 per cent of data at least once. Managing that volume of documentation is, for most companies, a time-consuming, labor-intensive process that eats away at the bottom line.
